Albany resident Lisa Lindo, age 30, was arrested Wednesday, March 8, according to Albany Police. It came one day after the department released video of the incident, which happened on Friday, Jan. 27.
The footage shows a woman placing a duffel bag style carrier with a female cat inside next to garbage cans on Sherman Street near Henry Johnson Boulevard. Police said the cat was left without food or water.
An Albany resident eventually spotted the animal and contacted Albany Animal Control.
The cat, now named “Newt,” was turned over to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and was determined to be in good health, police said. It has since been adopted.
Lindo was identified after footage of the incident was made public on Tuesday, police said.
She is now facing one count of abandonment of animals and one count of animal cruelty. She is scheduled to appear in Albany City Criminal Court on Wednesday, March 15.
